Of course, there are many people teaching yog and taking classes, but there are three worthwhile formal courses of yog that I know about, that teach the authentic and traditional yog, the kind we talk about on the site. If anyone knows of other courses, please let me know.
1. Correspondence course, Yoga Step-by-Step,
Conducted by ICYER (International Centre of Yoga Education and Research), Pondicherry, India. Developed by Swami Gitananda Giri. Cost Rs. 5000. I am doing this course. This can be followed up by a six month residential course at the Ashram.
Contact: Dr. Ananda Balayogi/ Smt. Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani
16-A Mettu Street
2. Four month residential course at the Bihar School of Yog (BSY)
Conducted at BSY, Munger, India. My mother and sister are undergoing this course. Cost Rs. 5000 for the four months. Virtually free for Indians, foreigners pay more. They have a beautiful ashram by the side of the Ganges river. It is at a very remote location, and the facilities and lifestyle is very basic and simple. Students are expected to take care of themselves and perform ashram duties in additional to their studies. The course is very comprehensive, as designed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati.
