Comments on Surya Namaskar
The photos above are of the extended series. This can be simplified/shortened in several ways:
- Eliminate posture 2 and subsitute with 2a. Similarly eliminate posture 26 and replace with 26a.
- Eliminate Postures 18-23
- Eliminate Postures 8-17 and 18-23
- When going from Posture 3 to 4, instead of jumping back, step back one foot at a time, or walk back.. Similarly when going from 23-24, instead of jumping forward, step forward one foot at a time or walk in front.
- Remember to breathe in for all backward bends, breathe out for all forward bends
- If the Surya Namaskar is shortened to 12 postures as shown above, it becomes the traditional way. In this case, you can chant a mantra or beeja mantra along with the pose. You can also focus on a particular chakra for each pose. Contact me for further information
